Who is Landing Your Plane?, © Steve Goodier

I heard a funny story: A small plane with an instructor and student on board hit the runway and bounced repeatedly until it came to a stop. The instructor turned to the student and said, "That was a terrible landing you
just made."

"Me?" replied the student. "I thought you were landing!"

That story may not be true, but it is true to life. Do you know who is landing your plane? Let me explain.

Frank Sinatra Learns the Value of Friendship, © Paul Kyriazi

In 1952 Frank Sinatra was down on his luck and singing to small audiences at Skinny D'Amato's club. He planned to go to Africa to visit his wife Ava Gardner who was there filming the movie "Magambo" with Clark Gable. She had sent him the airfare, but Sinatra was broke.

Seated at a lounge table with Joe DiMaggio and Skinny D'Amato, Frank asked the baseball great for a thousand dollar loan so that he could buy Ava a gift.

DiMaggio refused. When Sinatra was absent, DiMaggio said to D'Amato, "I never loan money to a has been." D'Amato asked DiMaggio to loan it to him. Fiquring the powerful nightclub owner was good for it, DiMaggio gave D'Amato a thousand dollars. Later D'Amato gave it to Sinatra. Not loaned, gave.

On top of that, D'Amato bought Sinatra a solid gold watch saying, "This is to remind you that you'll be back on top again. And bigger than before." When Sinatra became the most powerful man in Hollywood a few years later, he never forgot his loyal friend and performed every year at the 500 Club for free.

WRITING

Editor's Note:
Most online business owners are writing articles for publicity purposes these days. This particular piece gives great ideas as to how to make further use of all that writing!

Turn Your Column Into A Book, © Alyice Edrich

Columnists write fresh, new material on a daily, weekly, even monthly basis. But once the column is written, the columnist usually forgets about the piece and moves on to other columns. After a few years, those columns add up to a great collection of material. That material can breathe new life in the form of a book.

Search Like A Geek, © Jason OConnor

Some people search the Web like a Neanderthal standing before the Library of Congress steps grunting, "Me want food!" While other, more sophisticated searchers, act more like a person actually entering the Library of Congress, approaching the librarian, and saying, "Pardon me, please lead me to your books on agriculture and growing food, and while you're at it, please show me your books on fine dining in the Washington D.C. area." Who would you rather be?

10 Networking Myths For Newbies-To-Networking, © Maria Marsala

It's a given, isn't it? If you're in business, your number one job is to market. If you keep your business a secret - don't let people know how you can help make their lives better and what you do, you won't be successful - because no one will know that you're in business. How well you network, which is the "letting people know how you can help them" part, may well determine whether you succeed - or fail.
